Harold Macmillan with paratroopers, RAF Cottesmore

1959 - Prime Minister at Cottesmore RAF Station. The Prime Minister Mr Harold Macmillan today visited the RAF Station at Cottesmore, during which he ordered a scramble of four Victor bombers to see how quickly they take off in an emergency. He also watched a demonstration by two of Britain's latest airplanes the English Electric lightning and Armstrong Whitworth Argosy freighter. Photo shows Mr Macmillan with fully equipped paratroopers, in front of a Beverley freighter with air drop load today
