Hattie Jacques on step ladder with prop men

1965 - The picture the audience sees is in perspective, which means that Hattie Jacques has to mount a step ladder with the assistance of prop men to get to her part in the picture. A Roman Scandal In A West End Revue: One of the highlights of the new intimates revue, The Bells of St. Martins, at the St. Martins Theatre, is In Perspective in which outsize comedienne, Hattie Jacques, appears inside a picture frame, seated at a table with three Roman admirers. Hattie sings to them nostalgically while they drink toasts to her beauty. All is well until an apple rolls down the table and out of sight, then Hattie herself starts to fall, she tries desperately to save herself but thrusting a leg over the table, but it is too late and she ends spread eagled on the table, her wreath awry, but still gamely finishing her song. Photographers take you behind the scenes and show you how two tough prop men hold Hattie during her Ordeal. (Credit Image: (c) Keystone Pictures USA/ZUMAPRESS.com/Mary Evans)
