De Havilland Heron 2 in flight
Feb. 26 Heron Shows Her Feathers For added safety, feathering propellers have been fitted to a version of the British de Havilland Heron 2. With these, if an engine fails in flight the propeller blades turn so that the air hits the edge instead of the flat of the blade, offering less resistance and putting less of a strain on the plane. Powered by four de Havilland Gipsy Queen MK 2 engines, the Heron 2 cruises at 183 mph.
