Headless statue of former dictator Salazar, Portugal

Mar. 22 The Last Symbol Of The Fascist Dictatorship In Portugal has Been Decapitated: All the monuments, which had been raised in honour of Dictator Salazar in the Portuguese territory have since the 25 April peaceful revolution been destroyed in various ways, but always because of violence. Only one monument has resisted, and the one which stood facing the court of justice in the birth village of the man who ruled Portugal in an absolute way, for about 50 years, notwithstanding the various actions which had been undertaken against the statue, by the inhabitants of Santa Comba Dao. As a matter of fact, two times in a row, since 25 April, the statue has been painted red, another time yellow, and lately it has been covered with a black veil. But the people pardon with difficulty and the statue of Salazar has been found decapitated, the authors taking with them the bronze head, after having painted on the statue red spots, imitating blood. The head had been cut off at the neck, very neatly, probably with the aid of a mechanical tool. Dictator Salazar has died for the second time, all that remains is a bronze body on a pedestal stone, and an epitaph
