Heart transplant patient plays chess with nurses, London
May 05, 1968 - Returning to Normal; Britain's first heart transplant patient, Mr Frederick West, 45, of Leigh-On-Sea, Essex, enjoys a game of chess with his nurses in his special suite at the National Heart Hospital, Marylebone, London, today. Mr. West was moved from the theatre where the surgery took place three weeks and three days ago, to his new suite yesterday. Mr. West received the heart of Irish born Mr. Patrick Ryan, 26, a carpenter who died following a fall from a London building site
