Heinrich Lipphardt released from prison in China

Release of German businessman after spending 20 years in Chinese prison. Heinrich Lipphardt, 63, a German merchant who had settled down in China as a businessman long before World War II, was released now after having served a 20 year sentence of imprisonment in Tientsin. In spite of his pleading for being innocent, Mr Lipphardt was sentenced to 20 years on the grounds of espionage for the USA in 1954. Only three days previously he was informed of his release. He has arrived now on a Lufthansa plane in Frankfurt am Main after a 22 hour flight. Immediately upon his arrival he was taken to the airport hospital for a medical check-up, which proved that he is in good health in spite of his mere skin and bone look.
