1957 - Debutante goes scrubbing at 3/ an hour.: 18 year old debutante, Ruth Tennyson d'Eyncourt, has just finished three weeks work as a char. I decided to do something different rather than work in a coffee bar as all the others seem to do. Ruth had three jobs at 3/ an hour in Kensington, Knightsbridge and Mayfair homes. I dressed up in an old skirt, blouse, torn nylons and a headscarf and scrubbed front doorsteps, kitchens and rooms. At week-ends Ruth, who is the daughter of Major Alfred Tennyson-d'Eyncourt, director of a group of cinema's went to her parents six-bedroom house in Woking. Ruth who said she didn't regret being a char, now works as a £5 a week secretary. Photo shows here is Ruth Tennyson-d'Eyncourt, who worked as a 3/ an hour charwoman
