Jun. 06, 1956 - Daughter of a minor becomes a countess: The death of the Marquess of Ailsa during the week-end makes a miner's daughter a Countess. She is the wife of Mr. Archibald Kennedy, 30-years-old nephew of the Marquess, who becomes the Earl of Cassillis. Mr. Kennedy's father, the previous Lord Angus Kennedy, now 74, succeeds his brother as the new Marquess of Alisa. The Countess is 38 and has a year-old daughter, who now becomes Lady Elizabeth Kennedy. Before her marriage in the Alisa family church two years ago she was Miss Mary Burn, whose father worked in a Colliery in Northumberland, and was killed in World War 1. Her mother, Mrs Elizabeth Burn, brought up seven children on the profits of a small tobacco and sweet shop in Amble, Northumberland - a shop which she still runs. Photo shows MR.
