The 19th Baron had no sons. In 1952 it was announced that Lord Sempill's sister, the Hon. Elizabeth Forbes Sempill, had become a man. She re-registered her birth as that of the second son, instead of second daughter, of the 18th Baron Sempill, and changed her name to Ewan.
