May 05, 1967 - Lord Snowdon Takes Part in Water Ski Race Across the Channel. The Earl of Snowdon took part in a Water-Ski Race across the Channel today in the first ever two way cross Channel Ski Race. Lord Snowdonwas a competitior in one of the 50 three men team that took part Tom Sopwith, son of the air pioneer Sir Thomas Sopwith will drive the boat that will tow Lord Snowdon. The race is organized by the Whitstable Water Ski Club. The teams will start from Greatstone on Sea, near Dungeness, to a point three miles off Cap Grisnez. OPS: Lord Snowdon on his knees helping the boatmen to repair the screw prior to the start of the race
