Jul. 07, 1970 - Lion Cub presented to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond C. Firestone by Kenya Government: Pictures taken at Nairobi Animal Orphanage today when a 8 month old lion was presented by the Kenya Government to Mr.Raymond C. Firestone head of the American tire company in Akron, Ohio. He in turn will donate the lion to Overtan Park Zoo in Memphis, Tennessee. The lion called Jimmy became an orphan when his mother was shot by the Kenya Game Department officials in Wajir (Northern Kenya), because she was a man-eater. One of the litter of four cubs the other three died Jimmy was flown to Nairobi and has been looked after ever since at the Animal Orphanage. Now Jimmy is emigrating to the US. He was presented today by Kenya's Minister for Commerce and Industry James Osogo to R. Firestone at a brief ceremony held at Animal Orphanage in Nairobi. Mr Firestone flew to Kenya earlier this week to attend the foundation stone laying by President Kenyatta at his new £6, 000, 000 tire plant in Nairobi.
