Heirs - Heiress - Royalty - Socialites

Oct. 10, 1970 - Emperor's Daughter goes to work. Imperial Household displeased: For the first time in the history of Japan, a daughter of an Emperor has taken a commercial job, and while officials of the Imperial Household in Tokyo are unwilling to comment on the actions of Princess Suga for breaking the royal traditions, it is known there is much displeasure. The 31 year old Princess, who chose a commoner for her husband has since dropped her imperial title of princess, and is plain Mrs. Takako Shimazu, although her father is Emperor Family, and something of a mod in her ways and dress. Mrs. Shimazu has taken a job as a shopping consultant for the Seibu Department Store's arcade shop in the basement of an hotel, but she would not reveal the amount of her salary when interviewed, and said the store owners will rate her workmanship first and decide the pay later. On her first work day the former Princess Suga was escorted to her new job by six plain clothed policeman, and several uniformed guards. Photo shows Former Princess Suga, the Emperor of Japan's youngest daughter at the shop where she now works, on her first day as a department store employee
