1969 - Prince of Wales Regalia: Regalia to be used during the investiture of the Prince of Wales on last, July - was to be seen today at St. James's Palace. This did not include either the Coronet or the Mantle. The Prince's Insignia was made in 1911 by Garrard and company to the design of the Welsh artist Sir Goscombe John, R. A. The pieces are made from gold obtained in the vicinity of Caernorvon. The Verge of Rod measures 28 in length. The Head is formed by three winged amorini supporting the Prince's crown, in which the cap is forked by a single large amethyst. The Ring is a single carbounch amethyst held by two Welsh Dragons interlaced. The heads and claws form the setting of the stone. The Sword is selver gilt, the hilt 5 long; the blade 2'71/2'. the pommel of the hilt is two Walsh Dragons supporting the Prince's Crown; their inter-twined bodies forming hilt and guard. The blade bearing the inscription Towerth Tywyaog cyru M. G. which translated is Edward Prince of Wales, knight of the Garter'. The scabbard is of purple velvet with overlay of siver gilt of traditional celtic design. Photo shows the Sword, the Ring and the Rod being photographed today at St. james's Palace
