Aug. 29, 1972 - Prince William Of Gloucester Killed In Air Crash Race: Prince William of Gloucester was killed yesterday when the Piper Cherokee plane he was flying in the Goodyear air race crashed and exploded into flames just after Taking off from Halfpenny Green airfield near Wolverhampton. His co--pilot, Mr. Vyrell Mitchell, was also killed. The Prince, who was 30 was ninth in sudcession to the throne.
