Election in the Federal Republic of Germany; After a long and hard election campaign, on October 3rd there took place the election for the German Bundestag. The result; SPD got 42.6%, CDU/CSU 48.6% and the FDP 7.9%. That means that the CDU together with CSU got the most votes (3.7% more than in 1972), but they could not reach an absolute majority. Afterwards SPD and FDP are willing to continue their co-operation, it seems to be sure, that Helmut Schmidt will be Chancellor also in the future. But, besides this, Helmut Kohl, the Chancellor candidate of the CDU, announced that he will contact the FDP about a collaboration.
