Helmut Schmidt, German Chancellor, and wife, go to vote

Oct. 10, 1980 - Election of Federal Diet in West Germany : On October 5, 1980 the elections of the 9th German Federal Diet, which has been expected with tension, took place, Chancellor Helmut Schmidt was confirmed in his post, although he didn't get essentially more voices for his party, the SPD, than in the year 1976 (0, 4 % more voices than four years ago). Their partner of coalition, the FDP, under the former highest percentage of voices (10, 5 % compared with 7, 9 % four years ago). The CDU/CSU with their chancellor-candidate Franz Josef Strauss complained of losses in the high of 4%. This party reached 44, 6% of all votes and thus it continued being the most powerful parliamentary group in the German federal diet.
