Henry Cooper and his battered Ford Popular

Jun. 06, 1964 - A Royal Write-off.: 32-year-old machinist Henry Cooper was driving to the Rising Sun public house at Holyport, near Madienhead, in his 89 Ford Popular. As he was pulling into the yard of the pub, his car was in collision with a Rover 3 litre coming in the opposite direction. To his surprise he found that the driver of the Rover was none other than Prince Philip, who was driving back from polo in Windsor Great Park with the Queen. Both the Queen and the Prince were shaken but unhurt. Unfortunately for Henry Cooper, whose driver, and was not accompanied by a qualified driver, and was not displaying his L plates'.
