Henry Moore receives Order of Merit at German embassy
Dec. 12, 1980 - Germans Honour Henry Moore: Sculptor Henry Moore, 82, received the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany at a ceremony in the Embassy in Belgrave Square, London last night. Helmut Schmidt, the West German Chancellor presented it to him. He has become one of the world's most renowned sculptors, and his work is on show in every continent. A number of his major works are in West Germany, where he is regarded as a popular artist in the best sense. His double bronze Large Two Forms is on a long-term loan to the Federal Chancellery in Bonn. There is another Anglo-German link: Large Two Forms was modelled in Britain but cast in Berlin.
