Henry Moore, sculptor, at home in Perry Green
1953 - HENRY MOORE - GREAT MODERN SCULPTOR. One of the world's greatest sculptors, and according to some opinions, the greatest this country has ever produced, is Mr. Henry Moore, son of a Yorkshire Miner and now aged 55 years. Most of Henry Moore's works are huge figures carved in either elm-wood or stone. He is also an artist. Before setting to work on wood or stone he sketches out his ideas in drawings of remarkable beauty and delicacy of colour, then he makes a miniature of his completed idea. Henry Moore is also one of the leading graphic artists, has illustrated books and designed fabrics. He has exhibited in most of the capitals of the world and during the last war was an official war artist between 1940 and 1942. He lives in a charming house and studio at Perry Green, near Much Hadham, Herts and some of his famous works now lie in the grounds. Very shortly Henry Moore is leaving for Brazil to attend an exhibition of sculpture. He will also visit Mexico and New York before returning to this country for Christmas, arriving home actually on Christmas Day.
