Heraldic statue for Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
Feb. 00, 1953 - Queen's Beasts have look of ferocious loyalty: Standing guard outside the annexe to Westminster Abbey in London during the coming Coronation will be ten six foot tall Queen's Beasts, weird animals taken from heraldic devices used by the ancestors of Queen Elizabeth II. Photo shows Mr James Woodford, designer of the beasts, puts the finishing touches on the model of the Lion of England. This animal will stand guard at the annex entrance through which the Queen will pass on her way to the Coronation ceremony. It wears the expression of ferocious loyalty which Britain's Minister of Works, Mr. David Eccles, said he hoped would be visible on the beasts aristocratic faces
