Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass with Ray McVay Band
Feb. 29 When band meets band: When Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass flew into London Airport this morning, Friday, a surprise musical welcome awaited him. Trumpet players from the Ray McVay band were there to greet the Alpert aggregation. As the American came out of the oceanic building the McVay band began to play the familiar tune of Spanish Flea - Herb Alpert's best know world wide hit. The Ray MacVey band, from the Orchid ballroom, Purley, are to receive the Carl Alan award a week on Monday as Britain's outstanding resident dance band of 1965. In order to be at the airport by 7.30 am. to meet Alpert, the Macvay musicians got up at 4 a.m. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana band - America's biggest box office attractions of the year are here on a lightning three-day visit. Thery are to record two 30 minute spectaculars plus a guest appearance in the Black and White Minstrel Show for BBC TV. On Sunday evening Brian Epstein pesents their only UK concert appearance at Hammersmith's Odeon. The group leaves London Airport on TWA Flight 771 at 12.30 pm on Monday.
