Jun. 06, 1959 - Herbert Morrison Retires from Politics. Herbert Morrison, the cockney policeman's son who rose from errand boy to the Leadership of the House of Commons, is to retire from politics. He is 71. He has written to the South Lewisham Labour Party saying he does not intend standing as candidate in the next General Election.
