Herman Kruithoff charged with burglary, Sweden

Aug. 08, 1956 - Children Dig Up Jewels Cashier Charged With Burgling Residence Of British Ambassador: Three children - digging for worms to use for fishing - in the garden city of Lidinjoe, outside Stockholm - uncovered a plastic bag - which was filled with gold - diamonds - cigarette cases etc. They took the bag to the Police. Later Herman Kruithoff, a 35 year old washier from the Hague, was arrested and charged with burgling the residence of Sir Robert Hankey, the British Ambassador. He was also charged with the burglary of other houses in the Stockholm diplomatic quarter. Lady Hankey identified part of the jewellery - including a white gold cigarette case presented to her by the Queen during the state visit in June.
