Hermine Ryan on trial for war crimes in Dusseldorf

Nov. 11, 1975 - War crimes trial in Dusseldorf: Mrs. Hermine Braunsteiner Ryan, 56, a former American housewife charged with participation in the murder of 250, 000 Jews in a German concentration camp, appeared in court in Dusseldorf Mrs. Ryan, wife of New York construction worker Russel Ryan is one of 13 other defendants accused of murder and other violent crimes against Jewish prisoners at Majdanek, Poland, between 1941 and 1944. The chief accused is a former SS Captain Hermann Hackman 62, camp commander at Majdanek for 14 months. Mrs. Ryan's American citizenship was revoked when she was extradited to West Germany for trial, served three years in an Austrian prison after the second world war for crimes she committed as an SS guard at Ravensbruck.
