Hindu procession for Rathayatra Festival, London

Jul. 29, 1974 - Hindu Procession: Hindus last night protested to Harold Wilson against a police ban on pulling a holy ceremonial car by ropes through the streets to Trafalgar Square, London, for the annual Rathayatra Festival. Scotland Yard said the 30ft high, two-ton juggernaut did not meet road safety regulations. So it was transported by long loader from the Watford headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Photo shows Despite a police ban on pulling their ceremonial car through the streets yesterday, Hindus still managed to create a colourful procession as they set off from Speakers Corner to celebrate their Rathayatra Festival in Trafalgar Square, where the car had been taken by transporter
