Hiroo Onoda, former Japanese soldier, speaking in Tokyo

Feb. 25, 1975 - No Surrender - Onoda tells about his 30 years jungle holdout: Japanese wartime lieutenant Hiroo Onoda who refused to surrender until he received direct orders to do so from his commanding officer, and held out in the jungle on the Philippine island of Lubang for 30 years, speaks at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Tokyo, where he was guest of honour at a luncheon given him by newspapermen. Onodo who has published a book entitled No Surrender, plans to become a farmer in Brazil, and join his elder brother there who is also a farmer.
