Oct. 10, 1960 - H.M.S. Dreadnought- Britain's First Nuclear Submarine: A cutaway drawing of H.M.S. Dreadnought, the British Royal Navy's first nuclear submarine, which will be launched by H.M. The Queen at Vickers- Armstrong's shipyard at Barrow- in-Furriness, on Friday, OCT. 21st. The Dreadnought has an overall length of 226 feet, a beam measurement of 32 feet and a surface displacement of 3, 500 tons. The Dreadnought will have ability like other nuclear submarines - to undertake patrols of particularly long endurance at continuous high underwater speeds. Accommodation for the ship's company of 11 officers and 77 ratings will be of a standard which it has been impossible to attain in any previous submarines. Picture shows: 1. Reactor Compartment. 2.
