Oct. 10, 1960 - Queen launches Britain's first nuclear submarine.: H.M. The Queen today launched the Dreadnought - Britain's first Nuclear Submarine at Barrow - in - Furness. The craft has a displacement of 3, 500 tons is 266ft. long with a beam of 32 ft. Her reactor is of the pressurized water type - which will drive a single shaft through steam turbines.
