HMS Hermes and HMS Fearless in NATO exercise at sea
Sep. 20, 1974 - Exercise Northern Merger': The Royal Navy's aircraft carrier HMS Hermes and the assault ship HMS Fearless are being refuelled at sea off the Scottish coast during this week's major NATO exercise Northern Merger'. Soviet reconnaissance Bear aircraft were intercepted by the RAF's Lightning aircraft when they were found snooping on the NATO ships taking part in the exercise.
