1950 - Famous House To Be Opened To The Public: Hopetoun House, home of the Marques of Linlithgow at South Queensferry, near Edinburgh, Scotland, is to be opened to the public from 6 May to 30 September. Charge of admission will be 2/- for adults and 1/- parking fee. Tea will be served. The profits will go to the general upkeep of the famous house. Photo shows 79-year old Jimmy MacArthur, a joiner at Hopetoun House, who has been working there for 50 years. He is at work on the main stairway in preparation for the paying visitors
