Hotel Dreesen, Bad Godesberg, West Germany

May 05, 1953 - Under the world's biggest glass roof.: On 1 May 1953, the Rheinhotel Dreesen in Bad Godesberg, Rhineland, West Germany, opened its doors to many visitors. Here, the British Premier Neville Chamberlain met Hitler, in an effort to negotiate the Czech Problem, in 1938. The terrace is covered with an adjustable glass roof. It covers exactly 1850 square meters, and is even higher than the many chestnut trees which grow under it, in the Hotel Garden. This glass roof was built before World War II at a cost of 280.000, 00 Marks. During the war, it was hit by a bomb and shells, and seriously damaged. Repair works after the war amounted to 30.000, 00 Deutschmarks. The Hotel Dreesen was an Allied Recreational Center, until 1952. In 1953, it was returned to the Germans.
