Jul. 07, 1961 - Hovering Ship: Undergoing trials on Gare Loch, Scotland, is the D1, a 60 feet, experimental prototype hover ship'. Weighing 4.5 long tons, it has two three cylinder two cycle 25 bhp engines which raise its bottom from the water while its side walls remain submerged to about six inches.
