Humphrey Lyttelton, musician, with model of dream house

Jan. 01, 1958 - Humph refused permission to build his Dream House'.: Jazz King Humphrey Lyttelton yesterday appealed at a public inquiry against the decision of the Barnet Council to refuse him permission to build the home of his choice a contemporary bungalow at Arkley, because they claim it will affect the amenities of the locality. The house that he wants to build encloses three sides of a courtyard. It would include four bedrooms and a sound-proof studio in three long, low wings, build to brick and tile, and cost 5, 000. Humph said yesterday: I've been told it looks like a cowshed. Surely that is in keeping. If the objection was that it looked like a factory I would understand. He has been told he must wait two months for a Ministry decision on his appeal.
