Huntley and Bond at Scotland Yard press conference, London

Feb. 02, 1975 - IRA Bomb Factory Found In Murder Hunt: The gunman who murdered a young off-duty policeman in a London street on Wednesday belonged to a provisional IRA Cell which had been involved in the provinces. The group's bomb factory was found in a basement room in the Hammersmith area yesterday. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ernest Bond, head of CID at Scotland Yard, said yesterday that because of the discovery of the bomb factory, the murder inquiries were now being controlled and co-ordinated by commander Robert Huntley, head of the Bomb Squad.
