Ice stadium in Grenoble for Winter Olympics

Oct. 10, 1967 - France Prepares for Winter Olympics: Construction teams and building gangs are working against the clock to get the projects in and around Grenoble, France, ready for the opening of next year's Winter Olympic Games. Within two months weather conditions will put a stop to all open-air building programmes. According to Games officials, most of the building works are running to schedule and should be completed well before President de Gaulle opens the Olympics in February. The 50 million budget, much of which is being met by the State, only covers the work being done around Grenoble, which is already being called The Brasilia of France'. Other expenditure includes nearly 500, 000 for a massive concrete ski jump at St. Nizier in the mountains overlooking the city. In resorts such as Chamrousse Olympic Villages for athletes and officials are being built, and at six other resorts bobsleigh runs, ski slopes, ski lifts and other requirements are being laid out. In Grenoble itself a 7 million railway station is being built, a new airport is being laid out to replace the old one which has become the site of a 10 million residential Olympic town, and a 3 million 100 stadium is almost complete.
