Jul. 07, 1948 - Achilles of River Plate joins the Indian Army: The Indian Navy today acquired its first cruiser, when H.M.S. Achilles heroine of the River Plate battle against the Craf Spee, was handed over at Chatham, to Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, Indian High Commisioner in London, to be re-named H.M.I.S. Delri, Among those a the ceremony was Vice-Admiral W.E. Parry, who commanded at Achilles, at the River plate. Photo shows Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, seen with Vice-Admiral W.E. Parry, who is to be C-in-C of the Royal Indian Navy, on board the Achilles at Chatham today
