Jul. 07, 1948 - Achilles of River Plate joins the Indian Army: The Indian Navy today acquired its first cruiser, when H.M.S. Achilles heroine of the River Plate battle against the Craf Spee, was handed over at Chatham, to Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, Indian High Commisioner in London, to be re-named H.M.I.S.
