Jul. 07, 1948 - 5.7.48 Achilles of River Plate joins the Indian Navy The Indian Navy today acquired it first cruiser, when H.M.S. Achilles heroine of the River Plate battle against the Graf Spee, was handed over at Chatham to Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, Indian High Commissioner in London, to be re-named H.M.I.S. Delhi.
