He is Phra Pannananda, and he is a Buddhist monk from the Wat Mahathad, the largest monastery in Bangkok. He is staying in London for six months, and all the time he is bound by the strict asceticism of his holy orders. He wears native sandals and priestly saffron robes; he rises at six each morning, and eats only two meals a day, both before noon, fasting the rest of the day. He neither drinks nor smokes and he lives entirely on charity. For money ht has no use. And he must have no physical contact with women. He may not even shake them by the hand.
