Aug. 08, 1962 - Gurkhas Take Part In Nuclear Exercise Cross Belt On Salisbury Plain: About 1, 400 Gurkha troops took part in the nuclear Exercise Cross Belt which the 51st Infantry Brigade carried out on Salisbury Plain today. The aim of this battle is to exercise the units of the Brigade, and primarily the Gurkha units from Malaya, in the elementary aspects of nuclear tatics in conditions of enemy air superiority. Nuclear devices were exploded during the exercise. Photo shows Two of the Gurkha troops, Narbaha Dur Rana (left) and Krishna Bahadur, are seen taking cover in a foxhole as a simulated nuclear device of five kilon tons is exploded during the exercise today
