May 05, 1964 - Pandit Nehru Dies - Will Mr. Shastri Take Over?: Mr. Pandit Nehru who has been Prime Minister of India since Independence in 1947, died at his home in New Delhi today at the age of 74. During his recent illness, his duties have been carried out by the Deputy Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, but this morning it has been announce that the Home Minister Mr. Nanda will head the Government temporarily as the senior member of the Cabinet.
