Nov. 11, 1965 - Buddhist Festival Celebrated At Little Tibet In Calcutta. Once every year the Tibetan, Nepali, Sikkimese and Darjeeling Buddhists celebrate Gupa Lhahap Duichen at the Himalayan Buddhist Gompa (temple), a dilapidated building in one of the Calcutta's numerous narrow winding lanes, which the Buddhists call Little Tibet'. The celebration is in commemoration of the Lord Buddha's descent from heaven to preach the sermon to the world. Celebrations on the occasion continue for four days finishing with a colourful procession on the last day through Calcutta's main roads, and led by Lamas in scarlet and gold Magenta and cinnamon.
