Dec. 12, 1965 - India's Prime Minister refuses to attend Public meetings unless he is offered Gold for Defence: Prime Minister Lal Shastri recently announced at a public meeting in Delhi that he would not attend any reception or public meeting unless he is offered gold for defence purposes, since India is hard currency and this cannot help India to build up strong defences. Since the announcement the people have rallied together and gifts of gold have arrived at the Prime Minister's residence in Delhi. Some of the provinces have even made an offer to weigh Mr. Shastri with the equivalent in gold if he will vist their provice.
