Jan. 01, 1972 - Sheik Mujibur Rahman Flies Into London Sheik Mujibir Rahman, the Bangladeshi leader flew into London;s Heathrow Airport after being released from West Pakistan. The Sheik, Leader of the Awami League, had been imprisoned by former Pakistan President Yahya Khan, after the League's sweeping electoral victory in East Pakistan on a platform of Independence for the region. The 51 year old leader was seen off at Rawalpindi by the West Pakistan President Mr. Bhutto - After a meeting at Heathrow Airport with a Foreign Official he went to Claridge's Hotel in London where he gave a press conference.
