May 05, 1961 - Thousands made homeless in Singapore's worst fire: Thousands of people were rendered homeless in the fire which raged through the Singapore Industrial site of Redhill. The fresh breeze licked the flames into a raging inferno and engulfed the thatched atap houses in a matter of seconds. The fire brigade was soon on the scene but their efforts were seriously handicapped by the breeze which spread the flames over a vast before it could be controlled. Photo shows Firemen were kept busy trailing their hoses on the unburned houses this area is one of the States most notorious hideout for secret society members
