Indonesia - Malaysia - Singapore

May 29, 1961 - Thousands made homeless in Singapore's Worst fire: Thousands of people were rendered homeless in the fire which raged through the Singapore Industrial site of Redhill. The frsh breeze licked the flames into a raging inferno in a matter of seconds. The fire brigade was soon on the scene but their efforts were seriously handicapped by the breeze which spread the flames over a fast area before it could be controlled. Hundred of thatched atap houses were destroyed. Photo shows the fire could be seen for miles around the island. Thousands jammed the roads leading to the site of the fire
