Dec. 01, 1967 - Queen to Inaugurate the Isaac Newton Telescope. The Science Research Council's Isaac Newton Telescope, will be inaugerated by H.M. The Queen this evening, at the Royal Greenwich observatory, Herstmonceaux, Sussex. Named after the inventor of the first reflecting telescope, this 98-inch instrument is the largest ever built in this country even in Western Europe.
