Mar. 03, 1970 - Isle of dogs declares itself independent. The Isle of Dogs - the 618-acre island in the heart of London's dockland, declared itself independent at midnight last night. Links with Tower Hamlets, the local governing authority, were announced as severed. Photo shows crossing the bridge on the footpath today
