Feb. 02, 1955 - Baalbeck; View of the temples of Jupiter and Bacchua: The ruins of Baalbeck, ich stand among the orchards of the Bekaa, more than 3, .000 feet above sea level, are tremendously impressive. The great temple of Jupiter, with its propylaea, its vast courtyards its artificial terrace so fact high, and its enormous columns, was regarded as one of the wonders of the world in the first countries of our era. Of the 54 columns that originally surrounded this temple, only six are standing today. More than 60 feet high, they are surmounted by a 200 feet entablature. The Temple of Bacchua, built in the 2nd century A.D. is still almost intact. Its decoration, remarkably well preserved is incomparably fine and rich
