Jul. 07, 1958 - Prime Minister of Lebanon Escapes Assassination Attempt: Mr.Sami Solh, the Lebanese Prime Minister who is 73. today narrowly escaped assassination on a mo9untain road near Beirut. Mr. Solh was driving to his office from his mountain villa when the attempt took place.Rebels had mined the road in front of his car - and then fired at the vehicle. Mr. Solh owed his life to the fact that a car driving into the city - ahead of him accidentally set off the mine - and was thrown off the road by the force of the explosion.
