Jul. 07, 1958 - Prime Minister of Lebanon escapes assassination attempt: Mr. Sami Solh, the Lebanese Prime Minister who is 73 - today narrowly escaped assassination on a mountain road near Beirut. Mr. Solh was driving to his office from his mountain villa when the attempt took place (illegible) Rebels had mined the road in front of his car and then fired at the vehicle. Mr. Solh owed his life to the fact that a car driving into the city ahead of him accidentally set off the mine and was thrown off the road by the force of the explosion. The Prime Minister's car with its armed escort skidded to a halt just in time. Photo shows Mr. Sami Solh the Lebanese Prime Minister
